Our mission is “to develop fully devoted disciples of Christ.” The heartbeat of our church is to help people discover and develop a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

Our vision is “to be an authentic, biblical community where people celebrate life together.” We believe relationships are the essence of life. We envision a community where people take their masks off and get real with each other.

Our dream is to love, nurture, and disciple thousands of people in our state through a main campus in Albuquerque and 9 satellite campuses across the state in cities like Rio Rancho, Los Lunas, Santa Fe, Las Cruces, Farmington, Gallup, Carlsbad, and Roswell.

The next step for us as a church is to move into a permanent facility where we will have more time and space to minister to people 7 days a week, instead of only have access to a facility for a few hours on Sunday. In order to do that, we will be launching a 1-year stewardship campaign on Sunday, February 3, 2013 to raise money to move into a new facility and furnish it.

The theme of our campaign is “HOME FOR THE HOILDAYS—Get Passion into its own building by Christmas 2013.” We believe it would honor God for Passion to have a permanent home.

Would you like your friends, family, neighbors, coworkers, classmates, and associates to experience God the way you have at Passion? Would you like to be part of helping change more lives and impact the destinies of thousands of people? Then I ask you to partner with us in this 1-year campaign through prayer, giving, and serving.

Please take time to go through this campaign kit. Find a comfortable place to sit down and read about the potential this campaign has to transform our church, our city, and your life. As you do, let your mind run wild. Imagine what God could do through our church as we are united to fulfill our destiny together. It is going to be simply amazing! Jesus said in Luke 18:27, “What is humanly impossible is possible for God.” (TEV)

Celebrating life,

Campaign General Information

What is a stewardship campaign?

A campaign is a process by which people unite together to achieve a common goal and to accomplish something extraordinary. A stewardship campaign provides a structure for the church to reach its maximum spiritual and financial potential. The financial focus of the campaign is based upon sacrificial giving.

Are stewardship campaigns Biblical?

Yes. Moses launched a campaign in the wilderness after the children of Israel left Egypt to raise money to build the Tabernacle, the first church structure of its kind. King David raised money to build the Temple. Nehemiah raised money to rebuild the Temple. And the Early Church in the New Testament raised money to help establish their new community of faith.

We read of the sacrificial giving in the Early Church in Acts 4:32, 34-35 (NIV), All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of his possessions was his own, but they shared everything they had. There were no needy persons among them. For from time to time those who owned lands or houses sold them, brought the money from the sales and put it at the apostles' feet, and it was distributed to anyone as he had need.”

Why are we doing a stewardship campaign?

Because people matter. They matter to God and they matter to us. Black and white, Hispanic and Native American, rich and poor, young and old—every one is valuable to God. The eternities of thousands of people hang in the balance. It is our responsibility to help them discover and develop a personal relationship with God.

IMAGINE the impact this campaign could have.

  • IMAGINE how many people will discover a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and become fully devoted disciples at Passion.
  • IMAGINE how many lives will be transformed by the relevant Bible teaching and passionate worship at Passion.
  • IMAGINE how many marriages and families will be healed and restored.
  • IMAGINE how many people will discover, develop, and use their spiritual gifts.
  • IMAGINE how many thousands of lives will be impacted in Albuquerque, Rio Rancho, our state, and world as Passion becomes a global church-planting center.
  • IMAGINE how many people will celebrate life together, build authentic relationships, take their masks off, and get real with each other at Passion.

The next step for us as a church is to move into a permanent facility where we will have more time and space to minister to people 7 days a week, instead of only have access to a facility for a few hours on Sunday. We need to raise financial capital to get to the next level. Every company and organization needs capital to expand and enlarge. It is the same with churches. We do not have investors or shareholders like a business, but we do have members that are “shareholders” in the vision of the church. They can invest their time, talent, and resources to help us achieve our mission. Without a campaign, we will not reach the next level and impact more people. Our growth will be stunted and our momentum stalled.

How long will it last?

The HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS stewardship campaign will last 11 months—from February 3, 2013 to the end of 2013. Most churches do 2-year and 3-year campaigns, but we chose to do a 1-year campaign because we felt it would enable us to get to the next level quickly.

Will I receive a tax-deductible receipt for my contribution?

Yes. Passion Church is a non-profit corporation incorporated in the State of New Mexico and has received 501.c.3 tax-exempt status from the IRS. All of your contributions are tax-deductible.

What is the objective of the campaign?

Our campaign has several objectives. We believe the campaign will help us:

  • Grow spiritually—since giving is a spiritual issue, not a financial issue.
  • Learn how to hear and discern God’s voice in a new way.
  • Increase our prayer life as we pray for lives to be transformed at Passion.
  • Discover our spiritual gifts and be released to serve in our passions.
  • Be blessed in every way—financially, spiritually, physically, and relationally.
  • Raise enough money to get Passion into a new facility and add new paid staff.

How much money are we seeking to raise?

Our goal is to raise at least $100,000, over and above our normal operational budget, by the end of 2013.

How will the money we raise be spent?

Here is the budget describing how we will spend the proceeds from our campaign:

$10,000     The tithe of the funds raised will go to missions, helping build a church in Italy

$15,000 Deposit, first and last month rent, campaign operational expenses

$40,000    Furniture and equipment

$35,000 Construction costs to build out the building according to zoning guidelines

How can I be part of the campaign?

There are several ways you can participate in this campaign.

  • Prayer—Pray for souls to be saved, lives to be changed, the church to prosper, wisdom for the leaders, and spiritual growth for you and your family.

  • Serving—We believe that every believer has spiritual gifts that the whole church needs. God created us to serve in our passions. If you are not currently serving, get in the game. Use your talents. Make a difference. You are valuable.

  • Giving—The essence of the Gospel story is that God loved the world so much that He gave His Son so that through His death and sacrifice people could be forgiven of their sins and be born into God’s family. Giving is the heart of the Gospel and what it means to be a Christian. Giving makes us more like Christ, releases blessing on our lives, gives us eternal rewards, and leaves a legacy.

What can I give to the campaign?

There are several ways to give toward the campaign. You can give sacrificially out of your regular budget or you can give assets as well. Giving appreciated financial assets and appreciated real estate are particularly beneficial because the giver avoids capital gains tax on any appreciated assets given directly to the church. Other types of assets that can be given include the sale of a business, and inheritances. Many people liquidate assets and give the proceeds to their church, including but not limited to:

  • Tax returns
  • Savings and CD’s
  • Stocks and bonds
  • Vehicles (cars, motorcycles, boats, campers, trailers)
  • The proceeds from the sale of houses and properties
  • Collections (art, jewelry, coins, stamps, baseball cards, comic books)
  • The sale of a business

When do I give?

Our current members will have one year to give toward the campaign. New people that come in over the next year will have only until October 31, 2008 as well to make their campaign commitments. You can give:

  • Weekly (set aside money weekly from your budget)
  • Bi-monthly
  • Monthly
  • Quarterly
  • One-time gifts (at any point over the next year)

When can we move into our new facility?

We would like to be in a new facility by Christmas 2013. We need to raise approximately $100,000 before we can move into a new facility.

Should I go into debt to give toward the campaign?

No. We believe the Bible teaches that we should do everything in our power to get out of debt and stay out of debt. So we do not encourage people to go into debt to give toward the campaign. Everyone can participate in many ways without getting into debt.

Should I use some of my tithe to give toward the campaign?

No. The Bible teaches that the first 10% of your income belongs to God and should be given to help finance God’s work through your local church. Offerings are anything over and above your tithes. At Passion, like most churches, the regular tithes and offerings collected every week go to finance the daily operation of the church. A reduction in tithes would negatively affect Passion’s operational budget.

Will my gift be confidential?

Yes. Only our bookkeeper and a very select, small group of staff that handle finances at Passion will know how much you gave and they will keep it confidential.

How do I know my gift will be used appropriately?

Passion Church takes financial integrity and accountability very seriously. You can give with confidence and peace of mind knowing that Passion’s finances are handled with the highest integrity and professional accountability. At the end of the campaign, we will distribute a profit and loss statement to members to show how the money was used. None of this money will be used for any other expenses except the campaign.

What if I am not ready to make a commitment yet?

Bathe your decision in prayer. Do not rush into a commitment you are not ready to make. Please do not feel any pressure to make a commitment now or at any point during the campaign.

Every month over the course of the next year we will give monthly progress reports and celebrate what God is doing through the campaign. Every month we will give people new opportunities to make financial commitments. If you are not ready to make your commitment now, you will have multiple opportunities to do so over the course of the next year.

Who is consulting Passion through this process?

We are receiving full support, counsel, and guidance of our Board of Directors, International Board of Advisors, and Pastoral Staff for the campaign.

How do I know how much I should give?

There are seven things the Bible teaches about giving that you need to remember as you decide how much you will give to the stewardship campaign:

1. Give in obedience—Ask yourself, “Is this the amount I believe God wants me to give?”

2. Give in faith— Ask yourself, “Does this gift stretch my faith?”

3. Give sacrificially— Ask yourself, “Is this gift a sacrifice?”

4. Give responsibly— Ask yourself, “Can I give this amount without risking my family's financial stability?”

5. Give joyfully— Ask yourself, “Can I give this gift with joy in my heart without any resentment?”

6. Give generously— Ask yourself, “Is this gift generous in proportion to the financial resources available to me?”

7. Give in unity— Ask yourself, “Is my spouse in agreement with the amount we are giving?” (if applicable)

Use these seven biblical guidelines as you decide how much to give. Saturate your decision with prayer. Use this as an opportunity to grow spiritually and get closer to God. Make sure you have peace about it before you make a commitment. If you need a financial advisor to help you review your budget or assets as you make your decision, please call the Passion office 505-897-2232 and we would be happy to have a financial advisor assist you.

Who do I talk to if I have questions?

You can reach Passion’s bookkeeper, Sarah Derrick by calling the Passion office, 505-897-2232.

How to Make a Commitment

If you are single:

  1. Pray and ask God to place an amount on your heart to give to the campaign.

  1. Ask yourself what amount of money:
    1. You want to give.
    2. You can believe God to provide for you to give.

  1. Next, assume for a few days you were to give the amount of money you’ve decided upon, and then ask yourself these four questions:
    1. Am I joyful about giving this amount?
    2. Is my gift sacrificial?
    3. Am I demonstrating an expression of faith?
    4. Am I convinced that I can give this amount with a motivation of worshipping God?

  1. If you can answer yes to all four of these questions, then you can feel comfortable about your gift amount. If you could not honestly answer yes to all four questions, go through steps 1 and 2 again until you are comfortable with your answers in step number 3.

If you are married:

  1. Pray, as individuals and as a couple, asking God to place an amount on your heart to give to the campaign.

  1. Individually, ask yourself what amount of money:

  1. Now, get together as a couple and look at both of your gift amounts. If you each came up with a significantly different amount, repeat steps 1-3 and see if there is an agreement when you come back together.

  1. If you are not able to reach an agreement on a commitment value after a reasonable amount of time, choose the lower number as your gift.

Daily Prayer Guide

Prayer is how we communicate with God. We encourage you to spend some time every day in prayer and Bible study. You can use this prayer guide to help you develop your prayer life and relationship with God.

It is vital that you be honest with God and confess your sins. You can tell God anything. Share your life with Him. God loves you, cares about you, and wants to know you intimately. You can talk to God at any time, in any place, about anything. You can pray out loud or silently. Talk to God like you would to your best friend. God is madly in love with you and cannot wait to spend time with you.

  1. Pray for your personal life. Pray for your spiritual growth, health, protection, prosperity, favor, strength, integrity, grace, wisdom, and most of all, that you will become more like Jesus every single day.

  1. Pray for your family. Pray everything you pray for yourself over your family. Pray for them by name and thank God for them. Pray for any specific needs they might have.

  1. Pray for unsaved friends and family. Pray that God will soften their hearts, give them the gift of repentance, and draw them to Christ. Pray for strategic opportunities to show them God’s love and share your faith with them. Pray that they will believe in God, confess their sins, acknowledge Jesus Christ as their personal Savior, and make a decision to follow God and obey His Word.

  1. Pray for your church. Pray for the unity and protection of your church. Pray for the growth of your church—spiritually, numerically, and financially. Pray for people to discover a relationship with God at Passion. Pray for the leaders of your church—their personal lives, their marriages and families, their integrity and protection, and for God to give them wisdom to lead the church.

  1. Pray for your nation. Pray for the peace and protection of America. Pray for our governmental leaders, that they will fear God and accomplish His purposes. Pray for our troops overseas. Pray for there to be a spiritual awakening in our nation.

Creative Ways to Give

Below is a list of creative ways to give that other churches have used in their stewardship campaign. We are by no means suggesting that you do any or all of these. We are just trying to help you think outside the box and help you see how many ways there are to save money that you can invest in God’s kingdom.

1. Use coupons. Food is probably the largest discretionary expense for most people. Taking the time and discipline to do this can save $10 to $20 per week. This could generate $500-$1,000 over the course of a year.

2. Skip a meal a week as a family. Skipping one meal a week at an average of $20 per family to devote to prayer or fasting is $1,040 for a whole year.

3. Give up a habit. Easier said than done, but not impossible. For example, an almond latte plus tax each day for a whole year is $1,200.

4. Commit your income tax refund check to the Lord.

5. Commit an estimated raise in salary to the Lord this whole year.

6. Put off a discretionary major purchase and redirect the money to the campaign.

7. Adjust your vacations. Take a three day vacation instead of a seven day vacation. This can save $1,000 to $2,000.

8. Make a commitment to drink only water at a restaurant. You could save over $5 per week. That's $780 just for drinking water!

9. Wait for a movie to come out on video instead of seeing it in the theatre. One trip to the theatre can cost over $20 with popcorn and candy for two people. If you cut out two movies per month, that's almost $500 over 1 year.

10. Cut down to basic cable instead of regular cable, and eliminate premium channels.

11. Continue a bill payment. If you will be paying off a car or school loan in the next year, commit to continue to pay the bill by redirecting the money to the capital stewardship campaign after the bill is paid off. A $100 payment per month over 1 year is $1,200.

12. A dollar increase per week. This is a great idea for those who have never given or do not see a way to increase current giving. Start by giving one dollar the first week, then two, then three, etc., praying all along that the Lord would show you a way to add that next dollar and increase each week. If you were to keep this up for three years, you would give over $1,500 in 1 year.

13. Switch car insurances. You could save hundreds of dollars by switching to Geico. Just kidding! Just making sure you are still awake. If it ain’t fun, it ain’t church!
