The Word that Trumps Depression

The Word that Trumps Depression

Depression is real, painful and debilitating! The death of Robin Williams reminds me that there are too many people suffering silently with this tormenting oppression.

I realize that for some depression is a physical/chemical imbalance that needs a chemical cure. No doubt about it. In other cases, like mine, depression is a spiritual problem that can only be won with spiritual weapons.

At times, my husband, family and friends had to use their prayers, their words, their comfort to fight for me when I had no fight left against depression. Slowly but surely, however, it was the Word of God and its truth about God, myself and life that healed my mind and soul from the lies that kept me sad and despondent.

That is why I will not apologize for giving one single piece of advice to anyone going through depression: Read, listen to, meditate, confess, believe the Word of God. It will not just comfort you - it will bypass your feelings to judge your thoughts and attitudes and change the way you think.

"For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart." Hebrews 4:12robin-williams-dead

Mercy- Thank You for being so transparent & sharing your story. You may not understand how many people you have helped just by being your authentic self. Depression is a mental illness that effects so many people.

I became a young widow last year, my husband and were Christians full of faith, etc.... he died from a rare, aggressive Cancer, now I'm having doubts, and wondering how anyone can serve God correctly... why did he get Cancer, why was'nt he healed, but especially, why did he have to get Cancer in the first place???? I'm left with our 21 year old and 5 year old.... I don't know what to believe anymore when it comes to God.... the bible says by his stripes we are healed, but then there are passages like Job, who lost his entire family, how was THIS fair to him or his loved ones that died? And David, who God loved and the bible even says that he was a man after God's own heart, yet he was idolatrous, and a murderer.... how do I understand God now???? I was so on fire for God before all this, now I'm confused, frustrated, depressed and trying not to be mad at God.... I've tried Steven Ministries, Christian Counseling, which didn't seem to make a difference or help at all. And I've tried to find a local group for young widows but can't find one... I font know if you can help, but I've never battled depression before, I wouldn't wish this on anyone! If you can help in anyway, please reply or email me at: Sincerely, Julie
